It’s such a simple expression yet it yields such great benefits.

Don’t believe me? Try it now.

Smiling instantly makes us feel happier by releasing endorphins and serotonin which boosts our mood and increases positive thoughts.

Smiling keeps us younger

Smiles are also contagious to those around us and smiling makes us more attractive looking.

Smiling is even a natural way to make us look younger.

When we are smiling we are engaging face muscles that lift our face – this results in us looking more youthful.

According to a collection of several studies found on www.sclhealth.org, some healthy benefits of smiling are:

  • helps us to handle stress better and reduce our heartrate
  • creates a ripple effect which causes others to smile too
  • makes us more happy and productive at work

Smiling makes us happier

smile

The simple act of smiling makes us happier.

But what if we are faking it?

As observed in smile research, an improvement in mood was measured in participants whether their smiles were fake or genuine.

It was found that simply changing our facial expressions can influence our mood.

This is based on sciencedaily.com, which published an article based on 50 years of data collection on facial expressions and feelings.

This meta-analysis of 138 studies and over 11,000 participants found that facial expressions have “a small impact on our feelings”.

Sure it’s only a ‘small impact’, but if we are looking at investment and reward, it’s a pretty significant benefit for such little effort.
